KAPLAN TURBINES
Application range:
- heads from 5 m to 75 m
- outputs from 200 kW to 100 MW
- runner diameters up to 9500 mm
Types
-
they are supplied in vertical or horizontal arrangement
-
they are supplied in a spiral case or in a flume arrangement
KAPLAN turbines
-
he turbine is double regulated (adjustable runner blades and adjustable guide vanes)
-
advantage is the wide regulation range having very flat efficiency curve at great variations of heads and discharges
-
this type enables effective operation from zero to maximum turbine output
PROPELLER - Kaplan like turbines, however with fixed runner blades
- with a single regulation trough guide vane opening, similar to Francis turbines
- as a result of simpler design and a higher speed they are used to replace older Francis turbines installed at low head hydro power plants (heads up to 10m )
- higher nominal speed of the turbine enables to apply a direct driven generator
SEMIKAPLAN - Kaplan like turbines, however with fixed guide vanes
- the single turbine regulation is made through runner blade opening. This type of regulation enables to achieve flatter efficiency curve compared to that of the PROPELLER type
