SMALL HYDRAULIC TURBINES

  • Flume or spiral turbines of  Kaplan or Francis type

  • PROPELLER or SEMIKAPLAN turbines

  • Right angle drive bulb turbines

  • Turbines of REIFFENSTEIN type (without distributor)

  • S-turbines

  • Pelton turbines for water supply mains

 

Technical differences of equipment and arrangement in comparison with projects of large hydro power plants

  • Bearing and gear cooling is mostly omitted and if their cooling is necessary, it is provided by flowing water without filters and pumps

  • Simpler equipment regulation using higher regulation pressures

  • Pressurized air system and similar equipment is not used

  • The Francis turbine runner can be mostly mounted directly to the free end of the generator shaft

  • The hydroelectric unit (including generator) of smaller Francis turbines can be installed on one frame
