24. IAHR Symposium on hydraulic machines and systems

The 24th IAHR Symposium on hydraulic machines and systems took place in the Brazilian town Foz do Iguassu by the end of October 2008.
Symposium´ s motto was “Hydro technology for next century environment“.
It was a conference of a considerable significance worldwide where new solutions were presented in the field of design and analysis of hydraulic machines and systems.  The conference was attended by about 250 experts from all over the world. Among the participants there were representatives of both supplier companies and universities and research institutions. Articles were presented at the conference dealing with application of new computation and optimization methods and procedures of the hydraulic machine design, and also new methods of and experience in experimental research. Moreover, new solutions were presented in the field of hydraulic and detail design of the hydraulic machines. A part of the conference was reserved for transient analysis solution in hydro power plant hydraulic systems; cavitation and vibration problems of the hydraulic turbines and pumps.

ČKD Blansko Engineering, a.s. was represented by Dr Aleš Skoták, who presented a paper with the title "Development of the new high specific speed fixed blade turbine runner", and Dr Jindřich Veselý presented a paper called "A new concept of hydraulic design of water turbine runners".
