3. IAHR International Meeting of the WorkGroup on Cavitation and Dynamic Problems in Hydraulic Machinery and Systems
On 14 – 16 October, 2009, the international conference “3rd IAHR International Meeting of the WorkGroup on Cavitation and Dynamic Problems in Hydraulic Machinery and Systems” took place in Brno. This work group arose in 2004 by merging of two work groups under the international IAHR organization dealing with hydraulic research. It was determined at the 22nd symposium or the IAHR - Division II – Section 1 – Hydraulic machinery and systems in Stockholm that the cavitation problems and dynamic problems in hydraulic machinery and systems are so extensive and specific that a conference (Workgroup), aimed just at this area, will be held under the auspices of the IAHR.
The organization of this year´ s – third in sequence - WorkGroup was entrusted to our company together with the Technical University in Brno, Faculty of Engineering, Viktor Kaplan Department of Fluid Engineering.
Interest of experts in this event surpassed all expectations – 130 experts from 23 countries of 3 continents met there including the most reputable top scientists in this field.
The conference was divided into several thematic divisions; 46 papers were given in a spoken form, and another 12 were presented on posters.
The conference themes included
* Hydrodynamics and cavitation of hydraulic machines
* Experimental and numerical investigations of cavitating flows in hydraulic systems
* Unsteady phenomena in hydraulic machinery and systems
* Oscillatory and vibration problems in power plants and pumping stations
* Flow-structure interaction
* Hydraulic transients and control systems
* Innovative technologies in hydraulic machinery systems
The ČKD Blansko Engineering was represented by Dr Luděk Půlpitel and his article “Comments to vibrations and pressure oscillations induced by the rotor-stator interaction in a hydraulic turbine“, which brings an entirely new view of assessment of pump turbine runner oscillation in aspect of excitation affinity and normal modes (reference to the article full version in .pdf format).
The last conference day was spent on a trip to the Punkva caves and excursion to the pump storage hydro power plant at Dalešice where the participants could compare their theoretical knowledge with practical experience.
