4 th IAHR WG conference in belegrad

Between 26 and 27 October 2011, the 4th IAHR WG 4  conference was held in the Serbian capital Belgrade; the conference was focused on cavitation and dynamic problems in hydraulic machines. For tens of the conference attendants a total of 33 specialized lectures were organized at the College of Mechanical Engineering of the University in Belgrade; the lectures were divided into eight thematic groups: introductory papers, transients, cavitation, whirl flow, pumps, hydraulic oscillations, flow simulation, and measurement. The introductory speech was rendered by Professor Gajič, who, apart from other matters, also emphasized the importance of experience transferring among experts. The company ČKD Blansko Engineering, a.s. was represented by Mr Jiří Obrovský and Mr Josef Zouhar. The presented paper “Experience with Hydraulic Design of Low Specific Speed Turbine“ dealt with a CFD design of a turbine runner by a semi-automatic method and its comparison with an experimental measurement. The conference contributed to establishing of new contacts with experts from abroad and to obtaining of interesting knowledge in hydraulic machine development. Problems frequently discussed were experimental and CFD simulations of a vortex rope.
